Personal Data Protection Policy & GDPR Compliance

The 7th Acoustic Ecology Conference and its website, acoustiecology.music.uoa.gr, established and operating under the provisions of Greek law and based in the Philosophy School, Zografou, Athens, retains and processes the following personal data of each user, which they voluntarily provide, for their registration to the website’s newsletter and the 7th Acoustic Ecology Conference.
Users have the right, at any time, to request from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) the deletion of their personal and sensitive data from its records.
The NKUA makes every possible effort and has taken all necessary measures to ensure the safest collection, transfer, and storage of users’ registered personal information. Data must be collected and processed only when absolutely necessary. It will never sell, rent, distribute in any other way, or disclose users’ personal information.

We collect and use personal information for the following reasons:
1. Website visitation tracking
Like most websites, this one uses Google Analytics (GA) to track user activity. We use this data to determine the number of people using our website, to better understand how they find and use our web pages, and to see their pathway through the website. Although Google Analytics records data such as your geographical location, device, internet browser, and operating system, none of this information personally identifies you to us. Google Analytics also records your computer’s IP address which could be used to personally identify you, but Google does not grant us access to this. We consider Google to be a third-party data processor. Disabling cookies in your internet browser will prevent GA from tracking any part of your visit to pages within this website.
2. Contact & registration to the newsletter via website form
Primarily, we collect only the essential information needed for sending newsletters and the conference’s needs. If you choose to contact us using the contact form on our websites, none of the data that you provide will be transferred or processed by any third party data processor.
3. Electronic newsletter
If you choose to join our email newsletter, the email address that you submit to us will be forwarded to MailChimp who provide us with email marketing services. We consider MailChimp to be a third-party data processor. Your email address will remain within MailChimp’s database for as long as we continue to use MailChimp’s services for email marketing or until you specifically request removal from the list. You can do this by unsubscribing using the unsubscribe links contained in any email newsletters that we send you or by requesting removal via email. If you are under the age of 16, you MUST obtain parental consent before joining our email newsletter. While your email address remains within the MailChimp database, you will receive periodic newsletter emails from us.

Regarding this website’s server

All web traffic (file transfer) between this website and your browser is encrypted and transferred via HTTPS. HTTPS is essentially the same as HTTP but with an additional layer of security, SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), part of a wider security protocol called Transport Layer Security (TLS). TLS’s job is to check if the website you are loading in your browser is genuinely the site you want to visit, while also encrypting all data transmitted in real-time, offering privacy and security in transactions and data transfer.

Relevant legislation

Alongside our business and internal computer systems, this website is designed to comply with the following national and international legislation regarding data protection and user privacy: [Link for more information on the new 2018 EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)]
